With the development of the QR code scanner in recent years Oakton has turned to this new technology for a number of things. Recently the vote for members of Homecoming court used QR codes, to a certain amount of controversy. The issue is, as it always is when classrooms use smart phone technology, that some students don’t have access to it. When it comes to voting for homecoming that may not be that big a deal, after all it has no effect on academics. This year also brought the change in how students can request counselors by introducing QR codes throughout the school. The student simply has to scan and then register for an appointment, it’s that easy. Or is it? If a student wants to schedule a meeting without a QR scanner, there are precious few instructions to be found. The OHS website’s counselor page doesn’t have any information on how to actually meet them, aside from emails. Hopefully this years application process will see some reforms in the new system and allow a greater level of clarity between the counseling office and students.
