FCPS Creates “#celebrateyourplan” for the Class of 2020

Due to the recent closure of almost all schools because of the COVID-19 outbreak students are left heartbroken as they didn’t have the chance to say their last goodbyes to classmates and teachers. This especially applies to the class of 2020 who were supposed to have their most exciting last months at school, but they were left speechless as memories were torn from them. In order to try and make the most of the heartbreaking situation, FCPS has created a nationwide hashtag called “#celebrateyourplan” for the class of 2020.

This hashtag, which FCPS hopes spread nationwide, is supposed to celebrate the class of 2020 and their plan for the future, which would’ve otherwise been showcased during school events. This hashtag could be shared through Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram where students can share parts of their plan such as what college they are attending, what major they chose, if they’re planning on joining the military, or taking a gap year. Furthermore, FCPS encouraged seniors and teachers to wear their college t-shirt on May 5th and 7th when attending their online classes.

Although this is a thoughtful gesture, most students would agree that it does not feel the same as wearing a college t-shirt to school on “College Decision Day” (May 1st) or throwing their caps into the air on the day of graduation. Despite this fact, the class of 2020 is trying their hardest to make the most of their last days as a high schooler during this unprecedented situation.
