This year senior cougars have taken CYA house basketball by storm. Over 40 Oakton Seniors are playing house basketball this year, alongside students from high schools such as Westfield, Chantilly, and Freedom. This has created an incredibly competitive season. Teams such as the Lighteningdogs and Thundercats have been recruiting players since last year  and were two of the frontrunners this season.

These two powerhouses faced off on Jan. 17 . After a well fought game that went into overtime the Lighteningdogs were victorious with a final score of 64-55. Even more surprising than the outcome of the game was the turnout of fans who came. The student section of the Chantilly High School gym was filled with cougars of all ages.

“It was incredible, there were more fans at this CYA house game then many of Oakton’s Boys or Girls games,” said Brandon Kim, a senior at Oakton.

As a veteran CYA house basketball player I’d strongly recommend any players who aren’t quite good enough to make the team or are looking for a more relaxed style of play to join CYA basketball either this spring or next winter.
