Iman Vellani is a Canadian actress from Markham, Ontario who has been cast as Marvel’s first new Muslim superhero. In September of 2020, she was cast to play the titular character, Kamala Khan on the upcoming Marvel show, Ms. Marvel, making her onscreen debut. The show will be released on June 8th and fans can stream it on Disney Plus.

The cast of Ms. Marvel starts with the main character Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, starring as Iman Vellani, Kareem starring as Aramis Knight, Bruno Carreli playing as Matt Lintz, and Amir Khan who plays Kamala’s sister, Saagar Shaikh. The father is Yusuf Khan starring as Mohan Kappor and Kamran starring as Rish Shah. There is also another cast member whose name is Muneeba Khan playing as Zenobia Shroff, as well as cast mates Yasmeen Fletcher, Nimra Bucha, Travina Springer, Laith Nakli, and last but certainly not least, Azhar Usman. These actors are all part of the series Ms Marvel but the characters they are playing have yet to be identified. That is why their characters are not spoken of but they are still known to be in the cast for Ms. Marvel, which is available to watch on Disney Plus after June 8th, 2022.

Ms. Marvel starts out as a 16 year old Pakistani growing up in Jersey City, who lives with her mother and father. Kamala is the daughter of Muneeba Khan and Yusuf Khan. Her parents and her older brother, Aamir Khan, moved to the United States from Karachi, Pakistan. Kamala is a great student, an avid gamer, and a voracious fan-fiction scribe. She has a special affinity for superheroes, particularly Captain Marvel. However, Kamala struggles to fit in at home and at school. She struggles to meet new people, that is, until she gets super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to. Life is easier with super powers, right? In the comics it is said to say that Kamala gets her powers after a Terrigen Bomb goes off in New York City during the events of the 2013 Marvel crossover Infinity. The Terrigen Mists unlock dormant “Inhuman” alien genes in everyday people, which grants them superpowers.
