The bright leaves and change in weather says it all. With the arrival of Fall comes the traditional celebrations of Halloween and Thanksgiving, but also the beginning of many exciting events, including the start of festivals and October inspired days in the Washington DC area. There are a multitude of events for all purposes and interests alike, including seasonal picking and the celebration of Fall. There are a variety of activities to do, including those that go beyond the norm of the Fall season. Digging deeper into the issue, here are a mix of traditional ways you can celebrate the arrival of a new season.

Pumpkin Picking and Corn Mazes

A fall staple, pumpkin picking season is about to begin. With several patches in the area, it is easy to find one that is convenient and close to home. Local patches can be found at farms around the area, including Ticonderoga, Heather Hills Gardens, and Cox Farms. Corn mazes are also a popular pick during the Fall season, and can be a great family bonding experience.

Apple Picking

In addition to pumpkin picking, a slightly more popular tradition is apple picking. Apple picking season is wrapping up, as it is your last chance to grab a couple from the orchards. Act quick and gather your family for a great picking experience at any local orchard.

Oaktoberfest 5k Fun Run

The annual Oaktoberfest 5k run will be held on October 28th at the National Arboretum. A noncompetitive and charitable occasion, it is a perfect way to start off the season. All proceeds will support the National Arboretum and Washington Youth Garden. Runners will have the opportunity to run in a Halloween costume and bring pets along for the fun. All runners will be given a t-shirt at the end of the event. Prices vary by registration date, so try to sign up as soon as possible to be a part of this uplifting cause.
