Dog dies on United flight: latest tragedy

United Airlines just had their most recent horror in a recent string of bad luck procured by the Airline company. On March 14, 2018, a 10 month old French Bulldog was carelessly shoved into an overhead bin like baggage where it died later on the three-hour journey. The owners of the dog had followed every protocol for having pets on a plane, including having the dog in a kennel that could be fit underneath the seat. However, at the last minute before take-off, a flight attendant reportedly forced the family to put the dog into an overhead bin. The passengers around watched as the attendant shoved the kennel with the dog into the overhead bin as if it was a suitcase or normal baggage. Throughout the flight, the owners and passengers could hear the dog barking through the overhead bin as it fought for its life through the three-hour journey. The passengers were not permitted to get up due to severe turbulence. At the end of the flight, when the mother and daughter who owned the dog got up, they instantly opened the overhead bin to find that their dog was not responding to calls. They yelled his name over and over again as they realized what had happened. The passengers around them immediately succumbed to the grief and pain they were witnessing as many passengers started to cry as well. Although they were mad, the family couldn’t show anything but grief. After the dreadful incident ,many passengers on the plane took to social media to channel their anger towards United Airlines and to express their grief. Many passengers said that on March 14, they had boarded their last United Airlines flight. The airline later issued a statement in which they assumed full responsibility for the tragedy and stated that they are fully committed to supporting the family. Another passenger stated that the attendant did not know that there was a dog in the bag and was frazzled and shocked upon discovering there was one after the flight had landed. Either way the death of the dog is enough to add to United Airlines’ long growing list of problems and tragedies including video footage of passengers being dragged off by attendants and so much more. “The death of a dog is a tragedy regardless  if it’s an accident or on purpose”, said Melvin Sein 9, echoing the thoughts of dog lovers across our school and America.
