Black Friday: Shoppers crowd stores after Thanksgiving mostly to take advantage of sales, but partly to avoid their relatives and fighting over politics According to USA today, “online and in-store sales figures increased over last year as consumers grow more comfortable with shopping on their smartphones and tablets.” The financial technology company( Fiserv) found that shoppers were willing to travel for a discount; a quarter of consumers traveled more than 25 miles to visit a physical store. It seems while more people are scouting the web for deals, people still hit the stores for Black Friday. Here are some Oakton students’ tales about Black Friday this year.

In an interview with a 9th who goes to black Friday every year. When asked about her experience, she said, “it was okay, but did not end up getting much because the lines were really long and everything was messy.” Her tip is to shop during Cyber Monday, because “the deals are usually much better, plus you get to stay home.” She said she would go again because, in her family, it’s a tradition.

For Gillian Ashman, junior, who went black Friday shopping this year, it wasn’t her first time. She described, “it was almost like any normal day at the mall, just with big sales.” Her tips are “to go right when the sales start Thursday night.” When asked if she would go in the future she said yes.
