The Horrors of the McKamey Manor

The McKamey Manor claims to be an ‘extreme haunted house’, but upon further research, one is quick to discover the horrors it actually possesses. The entry into this extreme attraction itself raises question- apart from the fact that there’s 27,000 people on the wait list, participants have to go through a background check, pass a doctor physical and mental evaluation, as well as sign a 40 paged waiver contract. It’s recent attention has caused people to question it’s doings- and look further to figure out the true motives of this attraction.

Kris Smith, a volunteer for the McKamey Manor was scared off by what the waver said before even going through it. In an interview with USA TODAY, Smith explains the horrors one can experience going through this. “There’s so much.” says Smith, “You have to pull out your own teeth, there’s a chance of getting a tattoo, a chance of your fingernails getting pulled out. It’s really overwhelming. There’s a chance of death. Accidents do happen.”

But the haunted house itself proves otherwise. Participants are beaten, slapped, tortured, stomped on, held under water, duct taped, and perhaps any other form of torture method you can think of. There have been reports of people being forced to eat their own vomit, be nailed in a coffin filled with cockroaches, and all while being filmed by a camera. But unlike other ‘extreme’ haunted houses, there’s no way to make it stop. Previously, there was no safe word allowed, so the owner changed that. But even with that rule in place, there have been multiple reports of the torture continuing even after the safe word was repeated multiple times. So even if one begs and pleads, the torture will continue…

The aftermath of the experience is also awful. Even years after, some participants claim to still be haunted by this experience. Many have needed to seek professional psychiatric help and medical care for their profound injuries.

McKamey himself has come out to defend his attraction. “It’s all entertainment,” McKamey says. “Halloween is nothing more than a big play. The Manor is just putting on a big show. That’s all it is, just a big production.”

There are currently numerous petitions to shut down this ‘extreme haunted house’, many claiming that it’s just a torture chamber in disguise. Over 130,000 people have signed a petition for the shutdown of it, and that number seems to only be going up. ‘It’s literally just a kidnapping and torture house’ an anonymous spokesperson that created a petition to shut it down claims.

The facts have been laid out and word has been spread about this horror.  Is this extreme haunted house okay and totally harmless, or should it be shut down?
