Excuses, Excuses
It is the middle of winter. The weather is freezing, snow has already fallen with more to come, the sidewalks are slicked with ice, and it is getting darker faster. All of these obstacles can tend to stop people from going out to exercise. Generally, during this time of year, people will have made their new year’s resolutions, and for many, that is to exercise more. Exercising can be very difficult, especially having the motivation to keep going, so it is easy to get sidetracked or use excuses. Not this time though! With this short and easy to follow workout, you will be fit in no time, with hardly as much effort.
A scientific workout plan that has been developed by fitness researchers, is
only seven minutes and can be done almost anywhere! In this workout, all that is needed is the person, a wall, and a chair. It is a workout divided into 12 30-second exercises, with a ten-second rest in between each. The exercises are jumping jacks, wall sits, push-ups, abdominal crunches, step-ups on a chair, squats, tricep dips on a chair, plank, high knees, lunges, push-ups and rotation, and side planks.
These exercises provide high-intensity training with minimal effort. In fact, according to Chris Jordan, director of exercise physiology at the Human Performance Institute, the interval training provides “many of the fitness benefits of prolonged endurance training but in much less time.” A fellow Oakton student adds, “The seven-minute workout sounds like just what I need! Now I can’t even complain about any of it because I can do it right at home, for a fraction of the time!” – Dustin Tran(10)
Next time you try to say, “it’s too cold” or “it’s too dark outside”, know that those small problems have a very easy solution. This seven-minute workout can be done anywhere, anytime, by anyone. Seven minutes, that is all it is. As said by many important people, “Where there’s a will there’s a way.”
