Quarantine Service Projects

How you can help out the community during quarantine.

Quarantine can be a difficult time for many, with the stress of the unknown future, the amount of time spent at home and with only family, and the constant fear of a global pandemic. However, there are ways that you can help the community and hopefully help those who are getting hit hard by the effect of Covid-19.

  1. Donate Blood

– Blood is in high demand as the hospitals deal with a multitude of patients. One way that you can help prevent hospitals from getting overwhelmed is to donate blood. You can donate blood through the red cross, and due to the pandemic, you have to schedule an appointment in advance. Donating blood is a great way to help the community in a time of hecticness and help the hospitals deal with oncoming patients.

  1. Donate to Food Banks

– As unemployment rates are raging, many individuals and families are left with little money to pay for food and cannot feed their families. As a way to help these people, you can donate canned foods to food banks, Oakton has a food pantry that you can donate items such as canned soup or mac and cheese to the basics like toothbrushes and toothpaste. Another option is to donate money that the food bank can use to pay for meals and other items.

  1. Help neighbors

– A simple way to help those in need is to offer to help your neighbors. Check-in on them and see if they might need someone to get groceries or to just spend time with them. You can call them or talk to them outside six feet apart and hopefully make their time in quarantine a little brighter.
