There are many clubs at Oakton, some well-known and some that fly further under the radar. Although it doesn’t receive the same attention as clubs such as crew, hockey, or Best Buddies, Oakton’s Team Up for St. Jude does a lot of great work for the community. St. Jude is a children’s research hospital dedicated to both helping children treat cancer and researching potential cancer cures. Oakton Team Up for St. Jude is a club at Oakton that raises awareness for the official St. Jude organization through various community service activities. This year, Oakton Team Up for St. Jude has made blankets for St. Jude patients and they hosted a representative from St. Jude at the basketball games on Feb. 6. In addition to inviting a representative to speak at the game, Oakton Team Up for St. Jude also held a baked goods fundraiser. In total, the club raised over $200 for St. Jude. Also, certain club members have gone above and beyond to raise awareness for the organization by participating in events such as the St. Jude 5K Give Thanks Walk or by donating money to the charity. Oakton Team Up for St. Jude has their monthly meetings on Mondays afterschool.
