Oakton has welcomed two new counselors this school year: Mr. Quesuan Wigfall and Ms. Alyson Calvallo.
Mr. Wigfall loved to hang out with his friends and play outside as a child. He moved around often, for his father was in the military. Some places Mr. Wigfall has lived are Germany, Kansas City, California, New York, and Virginia. Mr. Wigfall stated that he has always wanted to be an NFL player since he was four years old. As he grew up, he realized he wanted to work with kids. An inspiration he had was his counselor at Denbigh High School in Newport News. “When I’m a counselor, I want to be like her,” Mr. Wigfall said. After Denbigh, Mr. Wigfall attended VMI, or Virginia Military Institute. He didn’t like it until junior year, which was when he understood how lucky he was to be there. Mr. Wigfall discovered that he wanted to be a counselor through high school and teaching at Heritage High School in Newport News. This is Mr. Wigfall’s sixth year of counseling, and he thinks the students are great, parents are welcoming, and his coworkers are amazing.
Ms. Alyson Calvello lived 45 minutes outside of Philadelphia as a child. She described herself as a tomboy, and she enjoyed playing games like dodgeball and “manhunt,” which is a different version of capture the flag. Ms. Calvello didn’t have much of an idea of what she wanted to do as a child, but during her teenage years, she imagined herself as an ad executive. She went to Pennsbury High School, and then Temple University. Something from high school that she will always remember is her sweet 16 party. Ms. Calvello decided to become a counselor her senior year of college. She always liked helping people, especially sorority work for Delta Zeta, but she didn’t want to be a teacher, like Mr. Wigfall. Ms. Calvello has been a counselor at two schools prior to Oakton. This is her ninth year as a high school counselor.
