The Philadelphia Eagles are Soaring
After the sixth week of the tumultuous NFL season concluded, only two teams remain with a record of 5-1. The two teams are the Kansas City Chiefs and surprisingly the Philadelphia Eagles. After being only mediocre last year, no one could have possibly predicted the Eagles success this year.
The accusations that the Eagles made during past offseason are one of the main reasons for their stellar record thus far. Most noticeably, the Eagles made sure to address issues with their wide receiver corps and their defense. Alshon Jeffery has become the reliable, deep threat and the great hands that the team so badly needed last year. Torrey Smith also has immensely improved their offense and garners a lot of the defense’s attention downfield. On the defensive side, Chris Long and Derek Barnett have played excellently and were great additions to the roster. Finally, the big addition of running back LeGarrette Blount gave the eagles a power back who was dependable and who could gain tough yards after contact. Eagles fan, Surfael Feesha (12), says, “These new players have provided the team with great consistent play and also a number of playmakers that we lacked last year.”
Most importantly, the stellar play of both Carson Wentz and Nelson Agholor has elevated the team to a whole new level. Agholor already has four touchdowns and seems to be a completely different player then he has been previously. He has become a matchup nightmare and has become a star slot receiver. Wentz has become one of the elite quarterbacks in the league and has been playing unconsciously well. His ability to extend plays and make accurate throws on the move sets him apart from the rest. He also has become far more comfortable in the offense and is throwing the ball way more downfield than he did last year, which in turn opens up the run game. The rest of the year looks very promising for the Eagles and a deep playoff run definitely seems feasible at the moment.
