Oakton Improvables
The Oakton Improvables is a club that performs multiple times a year at Oakton High School. Their performances are comedic and are free to attend. The brand of comedy their show consists of is known as improv which means nothing is scripted and the performers have to improvise on their feet while on stage. This takes a lot of confidence and an ability to think quickly which is incredibly impressive. The team is led by senior Anna Goodin and junior Carolyn Best.
Chris Vinh is a senior who just joined the team this year and has performed multiple times in different scenes. He says that it is incredibly fun and he wishes that he had joined earlier in high school. He really enjoys the meetings the club holds after school to practice and also loves seeing the final product come together on stage. The unpredictability of what happens because nothing is pre-planned is one of his favorite things about the overall team. Finally, he says joining the improv team has opened doors for him to pursue other creative endeavors and has introduced him to some of the nicest and funniest people.
Along with performing at Oakton the team engages in many competitions at high schools around the area. The competitions cost around 5 dollars to enter, but give attendees the chance to see a wide variety of school’s teams perform. The team has one more competition at Herndon High School and then will end the school year with a final performance at Oakton. Follow them on twitter and instagram @oaktonimprovables to stay updated. I highly recommend going and checking out their final two events.
