PewDiePie and T-Series are fighting for the number one spot on YouTube.

PewDiePie, a solo YouTube content creator and the most subscribed to YouTube channel since 2013, has found some competition for the number one spot with T-Series, an Indian music record label company. With the rate that T-series was growing compared to PewDiePie, the corporation was supposed to surpass PewDiePie in October 2018. 5 months past the time PewDiePie was supposed to be overthrown, he’s still the most subscribed YouTube channel in the world. So how has he managed to do this?

Other major YouTube creators came to PewDiePie’s aid, trying to keep him at the number one spot. MrBeast, a creator with 15 million subscribers himself, helped promote his channel with huge billboards, songs, and other crazy plots. With all the commotion surrounding this competition, it became very popular in the online world and PewDiePie gained more and more support. He was only gaining around 25K followers per day, but it skyrocketed to 100-300K followers per day, around the same rate T-series had been growing at.

While it’s been fun for the online community to band together to keep PewDiePie as the most subscribed YouTuber, T-Series is still very likely to surpass him. He is only a single content creator, and T-series is an entire corporation, meaning they have much more influence than he does. More and more Indians are gaining access to the internet, and since many of them love the music T-Series put out, they will all eventually subscribe to the channel. PewDiePie just doesn’t have enough support from a large enough group to keep his status as the number one channel on YouTube, and once all the hype over the competition dies down, T-Series should finally be able to grab the number one spot.

The fact that PewDiePie has been able to hold onto the number one spot for this long on such a large platform is hard to believe, but India’s population of 1.3 billion rapidly gaining access to the internet. With all those people having the ability to subscribe to a music channel they love, it’s just very unlikely that he’ll be able to keep his spot at number one forever. It’s hard to say when T-Series will finally be able to pass PewDiePie as he’s been able to maintain his rapid rate of growth for a long time now, but my guess is the hype will finally die down once PewDiePie finally reaches 100k subscribers, as that’s the goal for many people.
