The Legacies
The Vampire Diaries is a TV series that was produced by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, based off of a book series with the same title by L.J. Smith. In this show, a girl named Elena Gilbert is torn between two brothers, Damon and Stefan Salvatore, who are vampires. The series is filled with romance, supernatural beings, and dangers that occur in the town of Mystic Falls, Virginia. During the production of The Vampire Diaries a spin off show was created called The Originals, which was based off of characters on TVD. Characters who star on this show that appeared on The Vampire Diaries were the very first vampires to exist which was Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah Mikaelson, and also Hayley Marshall who was a werewolf.
In The Originals, it focuses on the characters who appeared on TVD and other members from their family. This series places itself in the City of New Orleans and has Hayley pregnant with the child of Klaus’. The whole Mikaelson family work together to keep the baby safe while it is still in the womb and also after the baby is born. They named the baby girl Hope Mikaelson and throughout the show you’ll see her growing up. Disaster, love, and many clashes between the Mikaelson family and other people and also inside the family itself happens in the series. After the show ended, another spin off was made called The Legacies produced by Julie Plec, who is also the producer of The Originals. The Legacies trails Hope Mikaelson’s, the daughter of Klaus Mikaelson and Hayley Marshall, life two years after the events that took place in The Originals. She’s placed in the Salvatore School for the young and gifted and is surrounded by kids that are supernatural like her.
After the end of both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals fans were sadd
ened by the shows being over but excited about the spin-off that was being produced. After watching both TV series on Netflix, I was also thrilled about The Legacies coming out. Netflix released the first season of the show and I started watching it. The show was 15 episodes long and about an hour each episode. The series was good although there was not that many characters from TVD or The Originals, except Alaric Saltzman, Hope Mikaelson, and Landon Kirby and also guest appearances from Matt Donovan, Jeremy Gilbert, and Josette Laughlin. Many new characters were introduced in the show, including Caroline Forbes and Alaric Saltzman’s twin children named Josie and Lizzie Saltzman. Although Caroline was the surrogate mother while Josette was the biological mother, Caroline played the mother role to the twins because Josette died in The Vampire Diaries. Throughout the show Caroline is mentioned but does not make a
ny appearances in The Legacies though. The series includes all types of supernatural beings, not just vampires, werewolves, and witches who were the main focuses in the previous shows.
The Legacies is a great show, but The Vampire Diaries and The Originals have my heart. I enjoy the plotlines in the preceding shows opposed to the new one, even though it does have a good story. Needless to say, each show brings its own personality and a
ll are equally well made. The Legacies is definitely worth a watch and its complex characters along with its story line will leave you wanting more.
