With 20 people running for the Democratic election for 2020 race, it can be overwhelming to learn more about individual candidates. I will be focusing on the candidate who is currently leading in the polls, former Vice President, Joe Biden. At 76, Biden has already run for President twice and served as senator of Delaware for 36 years. He served as Vice President for two terms under the Obama Administration.

Policies in the senate.

During the years 1973 to 2009, Biden served as a Democratic Senator for Delaware. He was a chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations. He opposed the Gulf War and advocated for strategic arms limitations with the Soviet Union. In his time in the Senate, Biden was a fierce promoter of strict crime laws. Biden wrote and sponsored the Violent Crime Control and Law enforcement act of 1994. The bill raised money to add police and prisons, and some say it helped contribute to mass incarceration. Joe Biden recently came under fire for opposing bussing during his time senate. Bussing was when black children from mostly black neighborhoods were sent to schools in mostly white neighborhoods.
