The New York Yankees are in the playoffs!

28th world series win on the line?

As mounds were dusted off and cleats were shined, July 23rd marked the first game of the season as the New York Yankees and the Washington Nationals went head to head in the start of a new and fan free year in major league baseball.

As the year 2020 continues to surprise and distraught us, major sports leagues like the MLB have managed to overcome challenges by creating a year of cardboard cutouts and audience recordings. Especially teams like the New York Yankees who won the first game of the season against the Nationals with a final score of 4-1. As some time has passed since the start of the season the Yankees (like always) have been dominating the year along with other top tier teams. I mean it’s no surprise right? After the Houston Astros traded Gerrit Cole the Yankees are pretty much one of the better teams in the league right now. Especially after Cole was named one of the Best Starting Pitchers of 202o. But Cole wasn’t the only Yankees player to be given such accommodation, Second baseman DJ Lemahieu also won the AL batting title for the 2020 season.

As the NY Yankees were making strides they were also hitting some rock bottom games. I’m a major Yankees fan myself and it is embarrassing to admit they weren’t playing to their very best this season. Who could blame them though ? In a year of most confusing times it’s not bad to say that they weren’t able to be the best in the league. It’s not like they were the worst. All though they weren’t number 1, the Yankees did have some very honorable games that did land them in the playoffs. Especially the 10 day winning streak they had that lasted from September 9 to September 19.

Even now in the playoffs the Yankees are doing really well. I mean they haven’t been beat out yet. More notably I think we should talk about my favorite player on the team Giancarlo Stanton. Whom might I mention is the 1st player in postseason history with a home run in each of his team’s 1st 5 games in a single postseason. Stanton has been pretty much on a different planet during the playoffs. Giancarlo Stanton made a monster grand slam as the Yankees took Game 1 of the ALDS over the Rays which blew the game open in the 9th inning. That game basically landed him and the New York Yankees on every news publication I could find.

With all that being said the Yankees did lose last nights Game 3 against the Rays ending in a final score of 8-4 giving the Tampa Bay Rays a 1 game lead in the 5 game showdown. As sad as it is to say, if the Yankees lose the October 8th game they’ll be done, but if not they just may have more of a chance to clinch the ALDS and perhaps the World Series. The Rays have been big competition for the Yankees ever since the start of the season. As players like Masahiro Tanaka, Gary Sanchez and Aaron Judge haven’t had the best performance when it comes to Tampa Bay. Only now can our starting lineup save us and only now can our sluggers prevail.
