This weekend was a huge victory for the Philadelphia Eagles over the Los Angeles Rams, which improved their record to 11-2 for the season. This win gave them a full game advantage over the other teams all competing for the number one overall seed and home field advantage throughout the entire playoffs. Also, it helped the team clinch their division and guaranteed them a spot in the playoffs regardless of what happens the rest of the regular season. This momentous team victory came at a great price as Carson Wentz, unfortunately, took a direct shot on his knee during the third quarter. He was able to stay in the game for the remainder of the drive which ended in a two yard touchdown pass to Alshon Jeffery, but after that he was ruled as out.

The MRI results yesterday confirmed the Eagle’s worst fears and showed that Wentz had torn his acl. This injury will cause him to miss the remainder of the season and have to go through a very lengthy recovery process. The Eagles are without their starting quarterback who had an incredible season and was one the leading candidates in the MVP race. The team will need to rally and succeed with Nick Foles leading the team.

Nick Foles, who is now filling in as the starting quarterback, is a very capable backup and a great football player. A few years ago, he made the pro bowl and actually won MVP of it which shows that he can definitely lead the team. The Eagles also will need to more heavily rely on their outstanding defense and versatile run game to keep performing at the same level as they were prior to this horrible injury. It will take the whole team stepping up, but the Eagles should still be a top contender to win their first Super Bowl this year.
