“Once Upon a Time” brings new faces to the TV Line-up

Storybrooke has frozen over after letting go of the previous story line to incorporate Disney’s animated movie Frozen.  The beloved town in the hit ABC show Once Upon A Time returns for a fourth season. Season four has introduced to us the beloved characters from Frozen, the fifth highest-grossing film in box office history. The season premiere takes viewers back to Arendelle to follow the story line of Princess Anna and Queen Elsa, two orphaned sisters. Anna is determined to understand why her parents left from Arendelle on a voyage. She leaves on a journey, and goes missing herself. This creates a mission for Elsa to look for Anna in Misthaven (otherwise known as Enchanted Forest).  When Elsa ends up in Storybrooke, she believes that Anna is there as well.

The casting from a physical perspective was on point, but from an acting perspective, was it a hit or miss? The casting for Anna (Elizabeth Lail) and Kristoff (Scott Michael Foster) was well done and actually overshadows the acting of Elsa (Georgina Haig), whose acting is like the rest of the character which is bland and overdramatic. This acting trait is one of the reasons that this show has had trouble matching the ratings of the first season.  Still, the introduction of Lail and Foster combined with the better acting of Jared S. Gilmore (Henry) this show could begin to have those first season ratings once again.

The decision to bring the Frozen characters to Storybrooke has added an interesting dimension to the show. It connects the storyline of the movie to the story line of the show. In the show, Elsa is similar to Regina (Lana Parrilla) in Once Upon A Time. The relationship of Anna and Elsa in the movie mirrors that of Regina and Emma (Jennifer Morrison).  At one point in the premiere Regina is on one side of a locked door, her back to the door crying, and Emma is standing on the other side trying to comfort Regina. Frozen fans were quick to take notice of the similarity of this scene to one in the movie.

These types of gestures are what will put Once Upon A Time back on top, with the Once Upon A Time fans and Disney fanatics. The show’s original purpose of bringing back all the great story book characters in a modern environment has reformed seamlessly with how the writers of Once Upon A Time have now incorporated modern beloved characters as well.
