MLB Postseason Race

Yes, it is October, the most exciting time of year for many baseball fans across the world, as the start to the month annually gives excitement as teams battle it out over a spot in the playoffs. Wild card or Division title, the standings over the regular season don’t matter one bit because there is only winner, and the name is printed on 40 rings for the best team in professional baseball, The World Series Champions. Here are the top three teams contending for this year’s championship title.

The Boston Red Sox have caught a recent form of fire, winning an astounding 11 games in a row strictly vs American League teams, to clinch their third American League East title in the past 10 years. In his final season, the legendary David Ortiz is having one of the best years of his career with 166 hits and a success of 37 home runs. Boston fans are relishing the good-bye from Fenway as he departs to a possible future Hall of Fame position amongst the greatest. The Red Sox are looking very dangerous this fall. “As a Cleveland fan it was very exciting to see my team make it to the playoffs after almost a nine year drought,” says Junior Alex Cybyk. “But when I heard the news of the matchup with Boston I was feeling very spectacle of our chances. Hopefully with veterans like Coco Crisp and a former Boston manager in Terry Francona, we may just be able to make it possible for World Series contention”

Once again, the Nationals are striving to bring their fans excitement and take the saying out of Washington that is now the regular, of “choke city.” The Nationals, for many reasons every year, always have the arsenal that is equipped to win championships, but for some reason, the red towels and screaming Washingtonians are just not enough to lift them to the top. The Nats will definitely be looking again to their biggest outlet for energy; that is Bryce Harper who has, for the past two seasons, “carried” Washington throughout the postseason, but in the end, the team could not get the result they needed in front of their fans. “I really hope this is the year that the Nats do it because this town needs some excitement after an abundance of years with failures in the playoffs,” says Junior Nick Berten. This year couldn’t get any worse, as their star pitcher Stephen Strasburg has been sidelined with injury at the most inconvenient of times, right before their big moment. It will be a true test of teamwork and mental focus for the Nationals to make their way through this October versus teams that have all their players healthy and at the ready.

Finally, the best team over the course of the 162 game span of the regular season is the Chicago Cubs, who will be looking for no other goal than to please their fans who haven’t seen a ring come back to Wrigley for over a century. Last season was a huge upset to the hopes of many fans, as they were the outright favorites but couldn’t produce when it came to the National League Championship Series, where they were swept by the New York Mets in a five game set. Second year Cub Kris Bryant is looking to make up for the disappointments of a lackluster postseason by instead finishing off a season with over 100 RBIs and over 40 home runs. As the Cubs attained their 100th win of the season, they are the sure favorites, two years running, to win the series and go into October once again as the National League Central Champions.
