Blame it on the Snow Queen

FCPS gets many days off of school due to snow.

This winter has been more frigid than Elsa, the Snow Queen in “Frozen”, meant it to be. Even though she sang “the cold never bothered me anyway”, it’s definitely bothering us at this point. The cold has spread not only to the Northeast, but even the south. A large section of the South, from Arkansas to North Carolina, experienced freezing temperatures and winter storms this winter, according to the National Weather Service. In Fairfax County, we experienced a week off from school, except for one day on Thursday Feb. 19, due to snow and cold. Teachers and students are under stress to get all material in before AP exams and SOL’s in May and June. We are affected the most here in Virginia when snow hits, because our snow plows are not equipped to plow this much snow. Because of this, we have to take many snow days, which just puts us behind in classes. AP exams are a set for a permanent date, so getting this much school off due to snow just isn’t helping at this point. School disctricts in other places like Boston and Chicago get more snow than Fairfax County, however, they are more used to large amounts of snow and are better equipped to handle it, resulting in less snow days. This puts students in FCPS and bordering counties further behind in studies compared to students in other states. However, we are very prestigious and are known for our hard work, no matter what obstacles come in our way. Let’s just hope Elsa can suppress her powers so we can get out of this eternal winter
