It’s no secret to Oakton students that our school is quite literally falling apart. Often the subject of jokes, the deterioration of Oakton ranges from dented lockers to shedding roof tiles. Surprisingly enough, the most presentable part of Oakton may well be the bathrooms. All Oakton bathrooms except for one were renovated in the spring of 2013, leaving current juniors and seniors with memories of dark, dingy, and dirty bathrooms that would disgust everyone. Although our restrooms are still not pristine and have rather unfortunate issues with stall doors falling off hinges, they are worlds beyond where they used to be. Thankfully, the rest of our school is not far behind, in terms of scheduling. Oakton is due for “major renovations” totaling about $96 million, in the summer of 2016, meaning that the classes of 2017-20 should be able to enjoy a fresh Oakton building including polished hallways, repaired lockers, and more. However, because no construction has been started, it is possible that the summer of 2016 could be pushed back into 2017 or even 2018. Juniors and seniors will never be able to experience a fully renovated Oakton, but sadly, it is possible that current sophomores and perhaps even freshmen will never have that experience either.
