The Greater Reston Art Center located in Reston Town Center is featuring artwork by students from several local high schools from Mar. 20- Apr. 4. This exhibit, which consists of pieces by several Oakton students including senior Janine Gaspari, is focused around the theme of Reconstruction.
“It was nice to be in a professional gallery and have the opportunity to have a lot of different people see my work,” said Gaspari. “It was scary to open up to so much judgement.”
Before opening night, the students spent a lot of time preparing.
“I had tons of meetings with teachers and brainstorming and about 40 hours of actually working on the physical artwork,” Gaspari said.
On the first night, the Greater Reston Art Center had an opening reception from 6 pm-8 pm where members of the community could communicate with the artists.
“The opening ceremony was the best part,” Gaspari said. “It was great to see a lot of people from Oakton out supporting the artists.”
Gaspari’s piece, “Subtle Femininity” as well as pieces by seniors Reed Timoner, Nishaad Lorengo, and so many more will be on display through Saturday of this week.
