Senior nights are momentous occasions for many members of the student body because they are times to honor our class of 2024 for the hard work they’ve put in for four years. This year, this night was celebrated on October 6th, 2023. On this special night, we were able to celebrate seniors from the marching band, the dance team, the football team, the cheer squad, and the golf team.
Special efforts were put in to celebrate the seniors, both on the field and off. The fence separating the stands and the field was lined with images of the performing seniors, along with their names and numbers (football). These seniors, along with their families, were individually honored as they walked down the field at the beginning of the game, bringing a sentimental feeling to most of the people in attendance.
OHS was able to honor its seniors both on the field and off, and Summer Barber, a varsity cheerleader, demonstrated an excellent example of that. As a varsity cheerleader, Summer got to be in an environment where she felt supported by her peers and the people around her. But when she wasn’t performing, she said that she loved the impact on all the seniors, not just the ones on the field. When asked how senior night impacts her and her fellow students, she said, “It feels really special; it’s really cool that we get to be a part of a program that’s so strong and that we get represented like this…It’s really fun and brings a special spin to performances!”
Oakton’s Senior night on October 6th was incredibly impactful, both emotionally and socially. Celebrating Oakton’s seniors was a great experience for everyone these past weeks, in the various senior nights that have occurred for other sports, not just football. Everyone was able to honor our class of 2024 through an exciting football game, and a great way to show how proud Oakton is of all the work and effort put in by everyone who made this possible.
