On October 3,2015, an American gunship attacked the Médecins Sans Frontières hospital ( Doctors Without Borders program) in the city of Kunduz, Afghanistan. As of now the attack killed at least 23 people, and injured many more. About 12 staff members and 10 patients were killed.
The Doctors without Borders Program has created a petition to get 500,000 signatures to get Barack Obama to organize an investigation of the hospital bombing. The petition includes an investigation to be facilitated by the International Humanitarian Fact-Finding Commission (IHFFC).
Without the United State’s approval IHFFC cannot fully investigate the airstrike. America’s general in Afghanistan, General John F. Campbell, said that the airstrike was asked for by the Taliban. The general said the attack was a mistake, and that they would never try to purposefully harm a hospital.
On October 7, 2015 President Barack Obama publicly apologized. He informed the public that three investigations have started by a department of the United States Department of Defense. The Department of Defense investigation will continue and will make a decision based on their findings.
