Redskins take a step backwards

The Washington Redskins were finally having a good season and were in first place in their division. They needed a decisive win to put some distance between themselves and their competitors. The win would also prove that the Redskins were a real threat this season and hadn’t simply gotten lucky. The big game was on December 7 at 8:30 pm in Washington D.C.. Fans were very hype about the game and tailgated hours before it began. The expectations were set high and Washington was the favorite to secure the victory.

The game was very competitive and low scoring. Both of the team’s defensive units played extremely well. Up until late in the game neither team was unable to score a single touchdown. In fact in the first 58 minutes of the games only a lowly 17 points were scored with the majority of them coming from field goals. However in the remaining time there were a total of 18 points scored. The last quarter has many amazing plays. Wide receiver Dez Bryant had an outstanding fourth quarter and was one of the main reasons that the Cowboys were able to move the ball so much in the final minutes. The game was decided with a measly nine seconds left on the clock. Kicker Dan Baily kicked in a long field goal to secure the win for the Cowboys. The final score was 19-16 in their favor.

The loss by the Redskins significantly hurt their chances of making the playoffs. Instead of taking a step forward into contention they took a massive step backwards. Instead of being two games up in the division, they are even with the Philadelphia Eagles. Both teams meet later this season for which should be an exciting and entertaining game.
