HQ Trivia is a mobile game like no other before it. It was founded by the creators of Vine as a second project at the start of 2018 and has since gained popularity with a diverse user base. The game resembles live television game shows like Jeopardy with its recurring host, Scott Rogowsky live at set times of day. Scott has remained the host for HQ since its beta days and has helped shape how the game is structured and played. As of writing this, the games are live each day at 3PM and 9PM EST with $2,000 of real cash up for grabs. Scott throws out twelve multiple choice trivia questions that you have ten seconds each to answer. The questions get harder over time and if you get one wrong, you’re out of the pool and able to watch the rest of the game without a chance at the money. However, if you get all twelve correct, you split the $2,000 equally with all other winners of that round and it’s deposited into your paypal account automatically.

HQ goes against the normal mobile game play style with its lack of microtransactions and the ability to pick up your phone whenever you want and play. The sense of urgency and focus given to a game that you know you won’t be able to play again in the next five minutes is like no other mobile gaming experience I have had. HQ is often played in a group with multiple minds on a question fighting for the money. The collaboration aspect and peppy personality of the host is what I think has earned HQ Trivia their peak concurrent player number of one million they have today. I know why I play HQ, but what is fueling the rest of Oakton students I see playing after school everyday?

Sophomore Jason Badger was brought to HQ via its referral incentive. Each HQ account carries its own code that can be used to get a second chance on a question if used by a new user. The incentive of a second chance was enough for one of Jason’s friends to “practically beg” him to join HQ. After joining HQ with his friends referral code,  Jason has played about ten games. He is having great fun playing with friends on the bus and before practice at the 3PM game as well as via Discord at the 9PM session. The HQ craze at Oakton is just starting and the game is evolving everyday so join today*.
