Stay Amped
A movement to end gun violence
On March 23, 2018 the Stay Amped concert was held in Washington D.C. at the Anthem theater. The performance was a special event dedicated to seeking support for the end of gun violence in schools, targeting students as their main audience. Throughout the event, inspirational quotes and phrases were not only recited by singers and songwriters, but by students of victims of gun violence.
The concert started off with a number of guest speakers, representing various schools nationwide that were recently affected by gun violence. The students remarked on how the shooting affected them as individuals, their community, and their family-life. Numerous speakers had lost a family member to a form of gun violence, either a school shooting, or a social outing or event.
Afterwards, a number of well known artists including Lizzo, Bebe Rexha, G-Eazy, and Fall Out Boy remarked about the impact of gun violence as a whole on the community, and the importance of love and happiness within all of us. Each singer sang their songs with a sense of humbleness and respect to the victims, ending with a final tribute to all of those affected by gun violence.
Overall, the mass shootings associated with gun violence have left a mark on the lives of a multitude of people nationwide. With a number of victims from a variety of backgrounds, many can connect on the hardships that U.S. residents are feeling all over the country. There is only hope that with every movement, step, and event to end the violent affair of gun violence, our generation will rise up and put a stop to this dangerous practice once and for all.
