Let’s get a little bit rowdy

Under new sporting event regulations, the traditional tailgating and crowd behavior for students has been altered and some may say being under the constant eye of administration and fearing repercussions can put a slight damper on school spirit. But have no fear, Cougars, for we know how to be safe and rowdy at the same time.

To kick off a hyped – but mannerly – tailgate, make sure the pump-up music is clean and lowered to an appropriate volume, just below zero. Taylor Swift really gets the crowd going, as does Nickelback or any Beethoven classics. This will ensure that everyone is extremely excited and ready to enter the premises through single file line and make their way to the bleachers in an orderly fashion.

As the game commences, instead of causing a ruckus with shouting, applause, obscene chants and general loudness, administration suggests finger snaps to substitute the harshness of clapping and offering kind words of encouragement. Say goodbye to the “butter fingers” chant and instead go with a cordial “Oh, you almost had it there, bud!” And a great alternative to starting a mosh pit in the student section is to not.

While storming the field is no longer an option, casually maneuvering around the fence barrier and making your way across the field at an inconspicuous pace to the end zone is. Experts say that whistling and avoiding direct eye contact with any administrator really does the trick. With these tips in mind, it would take a great deal of effort to not have a great time. So stay moderately rowdy, Cougs, but don’t get crazy.
