With the sacking of Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool’s mediocre start to the 2015-16 season, managerial staff looked towards a new direction in the path of the club. Fans of Liverpool knew this day would come but because of it’s such subtlety, nobody knew what to expect. Rumours of players leaving, a new stadium, and a definite new managerial staff, were spreading out and creating chaos for Reds’ supporters across the world.
The biggest topic was of former Borussia Dortmund Manager, Jurgen Klopp, coming to the English club for a first time experience in the Premier League, after having a record spell at the German club for seven years. Other managers were mentioned such as Carlo Ancelotti previously from Real Madrid, and Jurgen Klinsmann who represented the United States in the 2014 World Cup Finals. However, both of these choices couldn’t come close to the excitement and possibility of having the German bring the team back to its successful past.
Over the summer previous summer transfer window of 2015 still under Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool made big signings in the Belgian Christian Benteke from Aston Villa, and the Englishmen Nathaniel Clyne of Southampton. These signings seemed to make Liverpool hopefuls but the question continued to lie on how the center halves would fit after a poor 2015 season. This was where the hope in Klopp lied in how he could utilize his new players without injured prime stars such as Daniel Sturridge and Captain Jordan Henderson. Fans also looked to Klopp as one who could come in before the January transfer window to drive Liverpool up the ladder and to make key decisions for the noticeable holes in the struggling English side. With the disappointing sixth place finish under Rodgers last season, Klopp looked like the perfect skipper for the Anfield Job.
