This Saturday was one of the Oakton Lacrosse programs biggest events; The Turkey Shootout. Turkey Shootout is a popular tournament held at Oakton each year that helps to fund the lacrosse team’s season. The tournament consists of teams from the Concord District and other various teams. The Oakton girls varsity lacrosse team had a strong showing, going 4-1 in their first five games. They than lost a tough game to Bishop Ireton in the semi-finals, who is is the #6 ranked team in the country also. The girls had an overall strong outing, improving on their performance during last years tournament. The tournament was an overall success, both raising money and improving the teams.
The Turkey Shootout also happened again on Sunday for the boys. The boys also had a successful outing, going undefeated in their first four games. The boys also lost in the semi-final 6-3 to a talented Robinson team that won states last year. For both the boys and girls, the tournament was extremely successful. The boys very much improved, seeing as they didn’t even qualify for the playoffs last year. The future is looking extremely bright for both the boys and girls lacrosse teams. Robinson went on to win the overall boys tournament as did Bishop Ireton for the girls. The season looks to show the great progress made by the Cougars in the off-season.
