Are the Golden State Warriors truly invincible?

“Other teams just don’t know what to do”, Draymond Green said. He was talking about the Golden State Warriors invincibility in the NBA. He stated that other teams just don’t have a clue about how to defeat the Warriors. As the season starts it’s time to see if the Golden State Warriors are truly invincible as Green says.

Since the signing of all star forward Kevin Durant two summers ago, the Warriors have gained notoriety as villains in the NBA. However, fans don’t want to recognize the true greatness of the Golden State Warriors. Many fans don’t wish to accept the talent present in the Warriors. Obviously the Golden State Warriors are a really good team. They won the NBA championship last year after going a remarkable 16-1 in the playoffs. There is no doubting the Warriors talent and greatness, however, the offseason was an interesting one. A lot all-stars moved teams and formed strong teams and duos, that have slight chances of upsetting GSW.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, led by LeBron James, still stay the biggest opponents to the Warriors. The Warriors and Cavs matched up in the last three NBA finals together, Golden State winning two. However, in the offseason, the Caaliers lost Kyrie Irving, a young all star point guard, who is a major asset to the team’s success. They received all star point guard Isaiah Thomas in return alongside Jae Crowder and two draft picks. Obviously, the Cavaliers lost a great player in Irving, but they gained back a great talent in Isaiah Thomas who single handedly led the Celtics last year while averaging 30 PPG. The Cavaliers also acquired veteran point and former MVP, Derrick Rose, to solidify their guard position. Jae Crowder might prove to be a very influential defender for the Cavaliers too. Towards the end of the summer,  James was partnered with one of his best friends in the NBA- Veteran Shooting Guard and 3x NBA Champion, Dwyane Wade. James and Wade played for the Heat together winning two championships in Miami. This new lineup might bolster the Cavaliers more and provide the Warriors with competition.

Kevin Durant left the Thunder two years ago, and now they have come back stronger. After Russell Westbrook broke countless NBA records- and set them, he won MVP. Now, the Thunder made significant changes over the summer to acquire all star small forward Paul George and veteran Power forward Carmelo Anthony. The two superstars paired with Russell Westbrook form a formidable big 3. The OKC Thunder are now regarded as one of the only teams in the Western Conference that can provide the Warriors with competition. Oklahoma City bolstered their spot in the Western conference this past off-season, partnering two established superstars with the reigning MVP.

Another minor team that formed is the Minnesota Timberwolves with the acquisition of All-Star shooting guard Jimmy Butler to pair with Karl Anthony-Towns and Andrew Wiggins. The three of them should be interesting to watch this season as they bond.

Overall, although Green’s words may be true that the Warriors are still invincible, the major team changes that have taken place this year should make everything more interesting. The Thunder, Cavaliers, Warriors, Rockets, and Celtics are still considered the top teams as the most likely outcome is the Warriors over the Cavaliers in the Finals.
