Donald Trump Uninvited the Golden State Warriors to the White House

LeBron James woke up to a tweet from President Donald Trump saying Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors, who were the current NBA champions, were uninvited to the White House. He said “Going to the White house is considered a great honor for the championship team, Steph Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!” This didn’t sit well with LeBron and many other NBA stars. LeBron instantly tweeted back something that is likely to stick in the minds of people for a long time. He called the president a bum and said that going to the white house used to be an honor, until Donald Trump showed up. He also said since Steph Curry and the Warriors weren’t going in the first place, there was nothing to revoke. Other stars like Kobe Bryant and Chris Paul also voiced their opinions on this issue and the NFL Kneeling problem.

In America it is a tradition that the championship team of any major sport visits the White House. However, the Warriors players aren’t big fans of Donald Trump or his ideas, and were hesitating. The next morning Donald Trump infamously uninvited them. That weekend, Donald Trump had also made comments about the NFL and how players kneeling during the National Anthem of America should be fired. He made some comments about the issue that are filled with expletives. Former NBA legend and owner of the Charlotte Hornets, Michael Jordan, issued a statement saying that it should be up to players to do what they want as long as they stay within law. He said America has a history of peaceful protest and freedom of speech, and therefore there should be no problem with athletes and sportspersons taking knees during the anthem as a form of peaceful protest. LeBron James addressed the Incident again during the Cleveland Cavaliers media day saying that Donald Trump is setting a bad example for children in America, and that he doesn’t know how many people he is influencing and that he doesn’t know what it is to be president. Many athletes are starting to turn against Trump’s ideas and policies. LeBron James said that Donald Trump is using sports to divide America. Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch infamously wore a shirt to a game which read “Everyone vs. Trump”, basically signaling that Donald Trump was turning them against him. Lot’s of athletes have come to Curry and Warriors side against Trump. Kobe Bryant said on twitter that It’s hard for someone whose name inspires hatred and anger, to make America great again, referencing Donald Trump’s famous moniker. Other NBA stars like Chris Paul also joined in to support Curry.

Donald Trump has been facing much criticism by sports personalities and this is the latest conflict to arise. Most of the NBA has sided with Steph Curry and the Warriors, although Donald Trump clearly has oppositional opinions. With many athletes saying he is splitting America using sports, from LeBron James to Marshawn Lynch, from Steph Curry to Colin Kaepernick, from Kevin Durant to Kobe Bryant to even Michael Jordan who is usually quiet when it comes to politics, athletes clearly have not so good views on the current president.
