After the legal battle between Dr.Luke, real name is Lukask Gottwald, and Kesha after Kesha accused him of using “date rape” drugs to sexually assault her, the outrage and support for Kesha increases by the day. In February 2016, a judge denied Kesha’s request to make music under another label instead of producing under Dr.Luke. The judge sided with Sony in saying that Kesha lacked evidence. The judge didn’t allow Kesha to break the contract, but she is allowed to make music under another producer who works for Sony.
Fans have started a Care2 petition which pushes Sony to to allow Kesha to break her contract. Under this petition, fans have declared that they will be protesting around the Sony headquarters. Kesha has shown her gratitude towards her fans through social media. Sources are now saying that Sony is dropping Dr.Luke a year before the contract’s renewal because of the outrage displayed by Kesha fans.
Kesha hasn’t produced music since 2013 and still has to produce six more albums under Dr.Luke. Singers such as, Demi Lovato, Adele, and Lady Gaga have all reached out to Kesha and supporter her. Taylor Swift has also shown her support by donating 250,000 to help fight the case against Dr.Luke.
It is said that Sony and Dr.Luke have a great relationship but if Sony decides to drop Dr.Luke, a relationship will have to be broken. Sony hasn’t confirmed their decision yet, but it is said that Dr.Luke will soon be dropped by Sony. Groups of protesters started gathering around the Sony’s headquarters in New York City to show their support for Kesha on February 26. For this to be a legal negotiation, there would need to be a mutual agreement between Dr.Luke and Sony to break the contract.
