As Marvel and Disney continue to create movie hit after hit, most recently with the summer blockbuster “Guardians of the Galaxy,” their competitors at Warner Brothers and DC Comics plot their own triumphant return to the silver screen with “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Directed by Zach Snyder, the movie, slated for 2016, will serve both as the sequel to the Snyder-directed “Man of Steel,” and to introduce the characters of the Justice League for a future movie starring those characters.
Snyder and WB have released a steady trickle of news that serves to paint a picture of a movie that will set up a larger DC Cinematic Universe to rival the one that Marvel/Disney have already created. Along Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Henry Cavill as Superman/ Clark Kent, who both return from “Man of Steel,” Jesse Eisenberg, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot and relative unknowns Ray Fisher and Jason Momoa (formerly Khal Drogo in HBO’s “Game of Thrones) will appear as Lex Luthor, Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg and Aquaman respectively. Perhaps the most controversial casting choice was Ben Affleck, or ‘Batfleck’ as he was derisively called. Within days of the announcement, internet petitions sprouted up calling for Affleck’s removal, calling him too old for the role, and citing his disastrous attempt to play the eponymous hero in 2003’s “Daredevil.” Still, those petitions did absolutely nothing, and Affleck remains slated to play the role.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will premier on March 25, 2016.
