March for our Lives

On March 24, the kids and families of March For Our Lives took to the streets of Washington DC to demand that their lives and safety become a priority and that we end gun violence and mass shootings in our schools. Student organizers are planning the march in collaboration with the nonprofit organization Everytown for Gun Safety, following the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, which was widely reported as being the tipping point for gun control legislation. Survivors of the shooting have also created the “Never Again” campaign to advocate for tighter regulations to prevent gun violence.

What is it?

The “March for Our Lives” organizers explain on their official website that they support the constitutional right of law-abiding U.S. citizens to bear arms, but the rise of mass shootings, particularly at schools, calls for legislators to take action. So students, teachers and their supporters will take to the streets because they “will no longer risk their lives waiting for someone else to take action to stop the epidemic of mass school shootings that has become all too familiar,” the organizers say.”Not one more. We cannot allow one more child to be shot at school. We cannot allow one more teacher to make a choice to jump in front of a firing assault rifle to save the lives of students,” the organizers say in their online mission statement. “In the tragic wake of the seventeen lives brutally cut short in Florida, politicians are telling us that now is not the time to talk about guns. March For Our Lives believes the time is now.”

Where is it?

The march will take place on Saturday, March 24 on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. between 3rd street and 12th street NW. The March will begin at 12:00pm.

What other protests are planned?

March for Our Lives is not the only protest being planned by students. Others included a March 14 school walkout organized by the Women’s March, along with the April 20 National High School Walkout on the 19th anniversary of the Columbine shootings.

How can I support the march if I’m unable to attend?

Donations are always greatly appreciated in the fight for gun control. Donations to the March For Our Lives Action Fund will cover all expenses associated with the march taking place in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, March 24th. The funds will also be used to fight for comprehensive gun safety legislation at the local, state, and federal level, and will also include voter education, ballot initiatives, and lobbying state legislatures and Congress to protect America’s kids.
